What does certified natural cosmetics mean at Dresdner Essenz?
Natural cosmetics - what is that actually?
What many consumers don't know: The term natural cosmetics is still not clearly defined and protected by law. Both the Federal Ministry of Health and the Council of Europe are trying to define natural cosmetics. But this has not yet been achieved. If you look it up on Wikipedia, the largest online encyclopedia, you will find out the following about natural cosmetics: "Natural cosmetics are cosmetics that are at least claimed to be gentler on people and the environment and made from more "natural" raw materials than conventional cosmetics." Natural cosmetics also take a holistic approach. This includes the origin and selection of the raw materials used, their gentle processing, the packaging for the finished product and the relationships of all people involved in this process with nature.
NATRUE certification for natural cosmetics
The fact that the term natural cosmetics is so vague not only makes consumers despair, but also annoys us producers. That is why NATRUE (The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association) has set itself the task of protecting and promoting the term natural cosmetics worldwide. NATRUE is an international, non-profit association for natural and organic cosmetics. The label was established in 2008 and is internationally recognised.
The NATRUE label characterises natural cosmetics that meet the association's strict criteria. The criteria are checked by independent bodies in a complex and reliable certification process.
As natural as possible
The NATRUE criteria go beyond the legal requirements for cosmetics and allow the following groups of ingredients: Natural, Near-natural and Nature-identical. Natural ingredients are substances that are extracted from nature and to which no modifications have been made. Near-natural ingredients are substances that are extracted from nature but are subsequently modified. In the case of nature-identical ingredients, substances from nature are recreated in the laboratory. NATRUE only authorises certain nature-identical substances and they are subject to strict quality criteria.
There are precise limits for only nature-identical ingredients in order to achieve maximum naturalness. The criteria not only regulate the use of preservatives, emulsifiers or colourants, but also specify the minimum requirements for the production and processing of cosmetic raw materials. This means that organic-synthetic colourants and synthetic fragrances, microplastics, silicones, paraffins and other petroleum products are deliberately avoided. Natural raw materials such as vegetable oils, fats and waxes, herbal extracts, floral waters and essential oils may be used.
The quality of our natural cosmetics is subject to constant controls
Compliance with the criteria is guaranteed by constant controls and clearly documented by the award of a test mark. Only those who fulfil all the requirements are allowed to carry the NATRUE seal on their packaging. All Dresdner Essenz Dreckspatz and natural cosmetic products are certified by NATRUE.
