Improved CO₂ footprint with Less Waste concentrates

What is a CO₂ footprint?

In our daily lives, we cause emissions that harm the climate. The CO₂ footprint (also known as carbon footprint) shows how many climate-damaging emissions a person, a company or an individual product causes. The emissions can be calculated and expressed in CO₂ equivalents - because it is not only CO₂ that is harmful to the climate, but also substances such as methane or nitrous oxide. When calculating the CO₂ footprint of a Dresdner Essenz shower product, the entire life cycle of the product is considered and the following processes contribute to the result: production, raw materials and packaging, transport, consumers, disposal/waste.

Comparison of the_{CO2 footprint} of cream shower and shower powder

For a direct comparison, we looked at the_{CO2 equivalents} of the Wellnesswelten Cream Shower Gel and the Less Waste Shower Gel Concentrate Delicate Peony. We have left out the consumer from the comparison because there are no differences in the direct use of the products and the_{CO2 equivalents} depend heavily on personal showering behaviour in terms of water consumption and water temperature.

63% less_{CO2 emissions} with Less Waste shower gel concentrate

If all stages of the product life cycle are taken into account and consumer use is excluded, the Less Waste Shower Gel Concentrate produces 63% less_{CO2 emissions} than the conventional cream shower gel. Emissions are reduced at all stages of the product life cycle.

Production

Production covers all processes involved in manufacturing the product - from mixing and filling to repackaging into larger sales units. In production, the Less Waste Shower Bath Concentrate can save 47% of CO2 emissions compared to the liquid product.

Packaging and raw materials

Product packaging plays a very important role in the_{CO2 footprint}. A 200 ml shower gel tube causes 1.8 times the_{CO2 emissions} of the Less Waste concentrate. This is available in a thin film made of a highly recyclable plastic (mono-material), together with a refillable rPET bottle. In the calculation, we have assumed that our rPET bottle on offer is filled an average of 5 times. The fact that we source our raw materials and packaging from Europe, preferably Germany, has a positive effect on both comparative products. This saves transport distances and therefore_{CO2 emissions}.

Transport

Transport covers the distribution of manufactured products from the production site to the retailer. Saving water also significantly reduces the transport volume and weight of the Less Waste shower gel concentrate. The shower powder produces 79% less_{CO2 emissions} during transport than the cream shower in a tube.

Disposal/waste

Waste disposal includes all cardboard and plastic waste associated with the products as well as waste transport. The_{CO2 footprint} can be reduced 4.7-fold by using the Less Waste shower gel concentrate.

How can you contribute to an improved_{CO2 footprint}?

As a consumer, you have a major influence on the CO2 footprint of a product - regardless of whether it is a conventional shower gel or less waste shower powder. The biggest_{CO2 emission} is the waste water treatment of the shower water (counts as waste). Another decisive factor is the heating of the shower water. We therefore recommend water-saving measures, such as switching off the shower while lathering up with shower gel. There are now also special shower heads that reduce the flow rate without you noticing it negatively.
