Take a sauna: How to really work up a sweat

Saunas are not only relaxing, but also healthy - if you do it right! For sauna newbies, however, the first visit can seem a bit intimidating. In our blog post, we give you simple and helpful tips on how to get the most out of your sauna session. Find out how long a sauna session should last, which cooling methods are ideal and what you should pay attention to before, during and after a sauna session.

  • Above all, you should make time for the sauna. Under time pressure, you simply don't get enough relaxation and that's why you're there.
  • You shouldn't go to the sauna on an empty stomach, but also not straight after a meal.
  • If you have the flu or a cold, it's better not to go to the sauna, and if you have cardiovascular problems, you need to consult your doctor beforehand.
  • Cleansing is the be-all and end-all before going into the sauna. In addition to showering, this also means removing your make-up thoroughly. Make-up residue, sebum or other dirt particles can block the pores and lead to skin impurities. Important: Don't forget to take off your jewellery, as the metal can heat up very much in the sauna and may cause burns.
  • A sauna bath lasts around ten to fifteen minutes. If you feel unwell, you should leave the sauna beforehand.
  • An infusion provides additional heat during your stay. The infusion water is poured over the stones with a ladle. The water steam rises and causes significantly warmer temperatures on the upper benches. The heat is evenly distributed by waving a cloth over the stones. The lower benches are often more comfortable for beginners.
  • After the heat comes the cold: first, you should spend about two minutes in the fresh air to refuel with oxygen and cool your airways. Never jump straight into cold water, as some circulatory systems may not be able to cope with this. Then take a cold shower before finally using the plunge pool. When taking a cold shower, we recommend starting with your right foot, leg and arm and then slowly working your way to the left side of your body.
  • You can then relax in the relaxation room.
  • We recommend a maximum of three sauna sessions.
  • You should only drink something after the last sauna session and not in between, as this inhibits the detoxifying effect of the sauna. If you do not feel well in between, it is advisable to cancel your sauna session.
  • After a sauna session, the skin needs a lot of care and must be moisturised. A pH-balanced shower and a body lotion with high-quality moisturisers are ideal.
