Vitamin E (tocopherol or tocopheryl acetate) is contained above all in vegetable fats such as sunflower oil, olive oil, but also in nuts and helps to protect the skin or restore the balance of the skin’s natural barrier. As a result, vitamin E effectively helps the skin to better store moisture. Vitamin E also has an antioxidative effect and helps protect the skin against free radicals such as UV radiation. Tocopheryl acetate is frequently used in cosmetics. As an ester of vitamin E, it is more stable and only converts to the active form of vitamin E once on the skin’s surface.
