Phytosterols or phytosterines (phytosteryle canolates) are important structural components of plant cell membranes and their chemical structure resembles the well-known cholesterol. Above all, untreated plant oils from the seeds of sunflowers, sesame, canola and soy contain a high concentration of phytosterols. To date, the positive characteristics of phytosterols are mainly appreciated in the area of medicine, for example, for reducing the cholesterol level. But also in the area of skin care, phytosterols may have a wide range of effects: Thanks to their chemical structure, they perfectly combine with the cell membranes of the skin cells and thereby support the barrier layer. With dry skin, phytosterols are the perfect care ingredients as they sooth the skin.
